Indledning
Being at war can be traumatizing for anyone. The problem is, how does one convey those emotions? After WW1 millions of soldiers returned home to a new normal.
They were expected to settle down, get a job and a family. Though there were soldiers who returned with severe PTSD, they did not know at that time, and could therefore not explain to anyone, what was happening inside their head.

He struggles with his relationship with for example his mother, he does not feel like she understands him. The only person he seems to connect with is his younger little sister “Krebs looked at her.
He liked her. She was his best sister.” (347, l. 35) They share a special bond, something Krebs doesn’t feel that their relationship is too complicated as too complicated.
She is the only one he truly enjoys talking to. Another thing Krebs has lost is his faith, it is seen when his mother tells him that that are no idle hands in “His Kingdom”.
To which Krebs responds: “I’m not in His Kingdom.” (P. 349, l. 14). Since being at war and losing friends it suggests that he does no longer believe in God.
