The short story “Three soldiers” main character is the sergeant. The sergeant has been in a war and has now returned home to live with his family.
The story doesn't tell anything about the sergeant's look but since he is a U.S soldier he’s probably well trained.
The sergeant is a very responsible and determined man, which can especially be concluded from his profession as a sergeant in the U.S army. “I have answers.
"Tomorrow, maybe." "Maysuh alheer." "Use mine. "Answering their questions is my job.” (ll.4-5) When you are in a leader position, it is important to be able to make decisions and to act fast.
The main character in the short story seems to be in a limbo. He feels like he is betraying his men by just sitting at home instead of leading them.
