All over the world, American young men are being sent out as soldiers. Some on peacekeeping missions, others in war.

Many young American men lose their lives for missions in the world that are not directly related to American interests, but to contribute to world peace.

There is no easy way to deal with your returning from war. How to live a normal life probably seems unreachable.

After returning from the war, a lot of people experience many difficulties, such as nightmares, troubles with being surrounded by other people, and how to deal with loud noises.

He feels like he is betraying his men by just sitting at home instead of leading them. “In morning twilight, far away, my men are making up their minds: What's that guy carrying? Friend or foe? I should be there, helping them decide.” (ll.13-16)

He used to be the one who took the decisions for his group and now they have to take care of it themselves and make sure that everyone comes out of it unscathed.

On the other hand, he is happy to be with his family again, and he would feel like he betrayed them if he went back to war.
