Identity crisis is a common thing among minorities and the challenges of trying to fit in a society in which is filled with racism and criticism.

The struggles of wanting to achieve status and acknowledgement can harm a family’s stability and love for one another. But how easy is it to disconnect yourself from who you truly are?

‘’Billy Woodward was a handsome youth, with the features of his white grandfather’’ (page 109, line 26-27).

When trying to fit in with the white society, Woodward disconnects with his ethnicity and changes himself completely, to become a regular white teenager.

Woodward is hardworking and is determined to get a future that is different from other aboriginals. He is affected by the perception the white culture.
