Indledning
In the short story, Less Than Five Miles from Home written by Christen Enos, a mother, and her daughter were heading north out of Marathon, Florida, in the middle of the night.
Her mother drove something or maybe even someone, over. She did not dare to go out to see what it was, she just drove on.

She probably has the mindset, that what you do not know if you cannot feel sorry for.
She probably thinks that if she doesn’t know what she runover that night, then she can not feel bad about it, or can she?
Her daughter is quite different on that point, she wants to get out of the car to take a look and see if anyone needs help.
