Summary
"Clara's Day" is a short story written by Penelope Lively.

This short story is about a girl who name is Clara Tilling. She is fifteen and a half years old. One day she decides to take all of her clothes off in school assembly (forsamling).

She walks naked down the hall passing by other students and the headmistress (rektor). After she walks out and into a classroom where she put on one of the science overalls on.

While she is sitting in the classroom. One of her teachers enters the room with her clothes in her arms. The teacher asks her to put her clothes on and asks her if she wants to go home, but she says no.

After school, she goes to see the head. The head decides to write a letter to her parents. After the incident Clara acts like nothing happened. A few days later her parents receive the letter from her school.

Her mother’s reaction to the letter was unexpected. She starts to laugh and describe her daughter’s youth to her boyfriend, Stan. In the end Clara’s mother and Stan is driving to their work while Clara sits at the table and begins to cry.

Analysis Setting
The story takes place in London. The incident happens during a normal day in a public school and in Clara's home as well.
