Indledning
Every relationship has layers, pasts, and secrets. Strangers become lovers, lovers become partners, and occasionally partners become strangers once again.
As life goes on, the love between two partners can fade or crumple into pieces.
Or it can bloom into a field of red roses. Either way, a relationship needs hard work to function and both parts need to take an active choice to whether they want to fight for it or not.
The short story “Beautiful Things” by Kate Vine, focuses on the topic of relationships and how the changing paths partners can interfere with their love for each other.

After the narrator finds out about Tom’s feelings for Ashley, the narrator starts to think about eating raspberries. In the story, the raspberries are symbols of the unexpected and are associated with Tom’s confession:
“For some reason, I think of raspberries, how I like to press them into the roof of my mouth. The juice bursts out and only then do I know whether they´re sweet or sour.” (line 36-37).
