The reason Lena moved to Gatlin, is because her 16th birthday is coming up. When she turns 16, she has to decide if she wants to be Light or Dark caster. If she chooses Dark, all the Light casters in her family would die, and the other way around.
With the constant back and forth of her mind, Lena is unable to choose. The only thing she is really sure about, is that she loves Ethan.
Normally, she is very introvert and she keeps her thoughts and feelings for herself. But in finding Ethan, she does partially break out of her shell.
She tries to keep her weakness for herself, because she does not want him to pity her. She wants him to love her, and she has all confidence in him.
