Indledning
When people hear someone mentioning the word death, it brings up different feelings in us all depending on the experiences we have had with death.

The short story written by David Guterson in 1996, tells us about two brothers Bud and Gary, who are on a hiking trip right close to the Canadian border, after the oldest brother Gary has returned from the war in Vietnam.

The story revolves around an accidentally killing on a wood grouse, and how the two brothers have two very different reactions to its death.

Gary is Bud’s older brother. He just returned from the devastating Vietnam war. Gary doesn’t like talking about what happened in Vietnam with his brother Bud

even though it’s clear that Bud is dying to hear more about his time there and what he did. Gary has gained a lot of responsibility from his time in Vietnam, we see that by him mercifully killing the bird that his brother Bud fatality hit with a rock.

It’s clear that Gary’s time in Vietnam changed him as a person. He appreciates all the small things in this world unlike his brother Bud.

We see that when Gary tells Bud to stop walking and enjoy the view and when Gary spots a flock of sheep and ask Bud aren’t they beautiful? (p.1 l.15).
