Indledning
It is a well-known fact that soldiers who have been fighting in a war can be affected many years after they demobilised.
We often see that veteran, who have expired strange things nobody ever would imagine, can be mentally ill for the rest of their life.
Gary from the short story Wood grouse on a High Promontory Overlooking Canada can relate to that feeling after he has been in Vietnam, where he expired things, he will never forget. The short story is published in 1996 and written by David Guterson.

Bud is therefore the main character in the short story, and the younger of the two brothers. When the story takes place, he is 15 years old. But has missed his brother very much during Gary’s secondment, and he loves their friendship.
That is the reason why he travels to Canada with him. Bud I very interested in Gary’s trip to Vietnam, and he asks many questions without thinking and that he is trying to understand that Gary has went through.
Gary is the older of the two brothers and he is just returned from the war in Vietnam. The war planted pictures in his mind that he will never forget, and they have a big emotional impact on him.
We can see that in the text when it says, “Jesus, said Gary. Look that you did” (P. 2 L. 58) after bud shot down a bird.
