Indledning
The cycle of social heritage is a terrible struggle to break. Transitioning from the lower classes and shifting through social layers is no easy feat, as you are at a disadvantage from the beginning.
It requires tenacity, strength, and most importantly your parents' love and support. If support is absent, it will only become harder to reach your goal.
These issues are handled in the short story 'Tom Corridan' written by the Greek-Irish writer Arhondia and published in 2018.

Uddrag
Frank Corridan compels obedience and behaves abusively towards his wife and son to distance himself from his frustrations about life, career, and social status.
Frank sees himself as a hard-working man. That is why he also wants to be acknowledged as one.
Frank's frustrations about his own life are most apparent when Tom Corridan judges Frank in response to Frank's mockery of tom.
Frank reacts very brutally to this: "You little fucking bastard I put food on the table and clothes on your back. Who are you to judge me?" (p.2, l. 81)
Frank does not like to be judged as he feels entitled to his family's respect because of his role as the provider.
He turns to violence and beats his son up brutally. The physical abuse seems to be frequent as Tom appears to have grown numb to the pain: "I know there will come a point when it stops, like it always does.
And then there will be a time in the future when it starts again, like it always does." (pp. 2-3, ll. 86-88)
The quotation suggests that Frank often loses his temper and turns to abuse, which might be related to his incessant habit of drinking.
