The Lazy River is a short story which is published in 2017. The short story is written by Zadie Smith, who is a British author.
The narrator, Zadie Smith, tell us how the British people on vacation always the same things do as if they were at home.
None of the mentioned British tourists has been on sightseeing in the area, the only time the British tourists is breaking their everyday routines is when they are going down to the shops to buy floating devices.

The short story is narrated in different tenses to help the readers to get a picture of the events that takes place.
It is mainly narrated in the present tense. The narrator also makes use of the past tense when the main character recounts things that have happened prior to the moment of narration “Karaoke was last night” (l.30).
we also get introduced to the future tense when we are reading about how things will evolve “A year when they will be no older than we are now” (l. 117).
In the short story there is also use of a first-person point of view, it takes the plural form, as the narrator tells the story while being part of a group, that acts as an individual.
“For in this hotel we are all British, we are en masse, we are unashamed. We enjoy one another’s company. There is nobody French or German here to see us at the buffet” (ll. 25-27).
