At the same time, the U.S. sustains the highest number of school shootings in the world. In the time span between January 2009 and May 2018, the U.S. has endured hundreds more school shootings than any other nation.
These statistics suggest a correlation between minimal gun control and high gun violence.

The article is initiated with use of an anaphora, “Another massacre, another outpouring of political balderdash, flat-out lies about gun control and cynical offers of “thoughts and prayers” for the victims” (p. 1, l. 5-6), the repetition being used again in the conclusion of the column, “Our risk is that Uvalde will be just another Sandy hook” (p. 5, l. 136). T
he repeated use of “another”, exemplifies Hiltzik’s message on how this is not the first time the United States has sustained this sort of massacre and will not be the last either.
He does this not only to justify his own frustration on the lack of political action, but also argumentation for the fact that without tightened gun control, there will be no conversion of gun massacres.
Michael Hiltzik’s apparent message in his article, is articulated assertively, the same is done with Matthew McConaughey’s remarks on the shooting in Uvalde at the White House in June of 2022.
McConaughey uses his ethos appeal to reveal his personal connection to Uvalde, Texas and thereafter make his remark on his frustration towards absence of gun control in the United States.
