"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre emphasized in 2012.

The United States has a unique relationship with guns that puzzle many. With the highest percentage of guns per resident and the highest number of gun deaths per resident, USA’s fascination with firearms has become a popular topic, giving rise to much debate and concern.

As a result, it makes us wonder why Americans are so attached to guns and what lies behind their love for firearms.

America's deep love for guns can be traced all the way back to 1791, when the Second Amendment to the United States was established.

The Second Amendment states, "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".

The motive behind The Second Amendment was to give all people of the United States the right to protect their freedom and safety, using guns to defend themselves.

Nowadays, The Second Amendment is so deeply rooted in the American legislation, that it has become the nation’s identity and gun ownership is highly associated with freedom.

America's struggle with restriction on gun control can be related to multiple factors, the main one being the influence of the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA) with its over 5 million members.

The NRA holds the power to influence politicians and their view on gun control, by talking and engaging with them, whilst financially supporting candidates who agree with them on gun rights.

This allows the NRA to have a big say in choosing candidates for legislative positions. Many politicians are afraid to create laws against guns because they are concerned about upsetting people who like guns, and who may not vote for them in future elections.

This concern has led the politicians to choose what's good for them. instead of making stricter gun control laws for the nation.

In the United States, people have very different views on gun control. Even though there have been a lot of terrible mass shootings, there has not been any significant action to control guns.

Although hundreds of people of died in these mass shootings, these events make up only a small part of all gun-related deaths.
