The novel is named “The catcher in the rye” it is written by J.D. Sallinger and got published in 1951.
There is nothing in “Catcher in the rye” that signals Holden’s misinterpretation of child- and adulthood more than the book’s title.
When Holden is traveling through New-York City, he compares to what he perceives as innocence of children to the hypocrisy of adults and maturity.
He perceives almost any adult he meets is a phony and he himself has the fear of becoming an adult and a phony.

The themes portrayed in this novel are phoniness, Alienation and protection of the innocence. The first noticeable theme we see in the novel is phoniness, Holden absolutely despise phoniness and phonies.
Everyone he is around is utterly phony, even someone in his own family is a phony. His brother D.B works in Hollywood as a screenwriter.
Even though Holden have admitted to adoring his older brother’s screenwriting and stories, but Holden still thinks D.B sold his soul to the devil, sacrificing his talent for writing stories for money and fame in Hollywood.
