Indledning
In this essay I am going to analyze Amanda Gorman’s speech “The Hills We Climb”. Amanda delivered her poem at President Joe Biden’s inauguration
which took place on January 20, 2021, in Washington DC. The reason I found this poem so powerful, were mostly because of how Amanda performed the speech, and the meaning behind the text.

So, when Amanda Gorman uses the metaphor to climb a hill, she trying to illustrate something that is very hard, but when you reach the top it would be worth the difficulties.
That is why the hills is used as a metaphor for the United States of America and their history. The US has experienced a lot of difficulties in the past which they overcame, and they can look forward to a brighter future.
The use of metaphors helps to give a better understanding to the reader, by using metaphors the reader gets a comparison and imagine between two things.
