One evening a seagull falls out from the sky. One of the guys, Barry, who is fifty and the younger of the couple. Immediately becomes attached to the seagull, which he concludes by it falling from a heart attack.

The fear and fright of growing old and the suppressed feelings that comes with a conventional life. These feelings are presented in the short story “sonny” by the author Rob Magnusson Smith.
He decides to conversate about some unexpected topics such as the regrets of two middle-aged men, discussing the regrets of not having a child.
Barry and Simon partake a basic lifespan together. They are a gay couple about fifty years of age, who lives in Cornwall. Cornwall for them represents a joy.
“They moved to Cornwall because they simply wanted to live there. It represented happiness.” (ll. 25-26) It is stated in the text that living in Cornwall gives the couple a sort of joy, as their choices are determent by their feelings.
It’s important to notice the message of this quote, because it has a lot to do with Barry and Simons identity discernment.
