Indledning
Fantasy fiction involves magic, talking animals, time travels, the supernatural, portals and many other things which cannot be found in the world as we know it. Fantasy fiction is therefore imaginative stories of the impossible.

However, good fantasy fiction is rooted in reality and in human nature and the reader can therefore identify him/herself with either characters or themes.

The roots of fantasy fiction go back to folk tales, legends and myths which all contain fantastical elements and are called traditional fantasy.

Opposite folk tales, fantasy fiction (including fairy tales) does not have an oral tradition. The author is known and it has a more complex storyline with different worlds, settings and dynamic characters.
