Life almost always comes to a point where you must leave childhood behind and realize the fact that you must have to grow up.
The change and development in both body and mind, is something that you can embrace or repulse, but either way it does not change the fact that it will happen.
You do not have any say in when the transition might happen. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe in two years? Or maybe in the moment something or someone suddenly enters your life and takes over your mind?

This is a good example of how people by virtue of their character, appearance or intelligence to gain a natural position in the group.
When leadership is never given, especially not in a time where life, social roles and rules are changing, Mikey experience this, when the boys starts talking about the girls and Mikey does not have the answer, they are seeking for in him as a leader.
Mikey first seems to have an insight when stating that the girls are; “They’re probably talking about girl thing, like… like…” (p. 2, l. 32).
This shows a clear innocence of just a child and as he moves on by saying that the subjects, they are talking about is dolls makes his innocence even more apparent.
Mikey is not only innocent but also nervous when the topic babies is brought up by Cecil, thereby indicating a subject like sex which Mikey is very quick to dismiss to topic.
