Life would never be the same clear of either good or bad - everyone wants and needs enough attention and otherwise, so to stand themselves at some point.
Mostly it is children, who want attention because they need it. If they are not given enough attention, they will do anything to get it.
They will misbehave it, because even bad attention is better for them than no attention at all. This is where a young boy named Gavin from “Oh Mummy” comes in the picture.

From the bottom to the end Gavin really tries to get his mother’s attention, but it always ends in failure. The failures make Gavin irritated, lonely and he feels more insecure about himself and starts to hate the rest of his family.
The main theme is the need for attention; how badly Gavin wants the attention, even though he has some bad thoughts about his other relatives.
This makes Gavin to a jealous, manipulate, dissatisfied, guilty and frustrated boy. Since Gavin’s mother does not show him attention at all, Gavin himself has a hatred towards his own sister, Amanda - his own blood and flesh.
