Indledning
Many people have a lot of prejudices about different cultures, and they often assume things without knowing the entire story.

This is exactly the issue Chimamanda Adichie addresses in the TED talk “The danger of a single story” held in July 2009.

Uddrag
In the Ted talk Chimamanda Adichie uses different kinds of appealing to engage with the audience.

For example, she uses ethos when she talks about her own experiences with people’s prejudices about her.

By doing so she becomes more trustworthy in the eyes of the audience. In the beginning she talks about how gifted she was at an early age.”

My mother says that I started reading at the age of two, although I think four is probably close to the truth.” (Line 3-4).

In this quotation Chimamanda Adichie builds her trustworthiness by appearing honest. She also uses pathos to appeal to the audience

when she encourages the audience to challenge their own feelings with pity towards others and see the Africans as smart and creative individuals.”
