Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie TED talk “the danger of a single story” presents some of her personal stories

Chimamanda describes how reading British and American literature as a child made her believe that all the characters in literature had to be foreigners.

However, when she started reading African literature her perspective shifted, as now she had someone to identify with.

She is also honest about her on prejudices against her own and Fide’s family, this again tells the audience that she herself knows the danger of only hearing one side of a story.

She elaborates on her ethos by presenting her skills and professional achievements, she talks about studying abroad and so on.

Also the fact that she is a speaker at a TED talk, for everyone who have seen a TED talk before, knows that this make her knowledgeable about the subject she is informing about.

Chimamanda often uses humor and irony to convey the ridiculousness of a situation or to show disapproval of certain views.

For example, Adichie talks about her response to a student who expressed a prejudiced view of Nigerians:

...a student told me that it was such a shame that Nigerian men were physical abusers like the father character in my novel.
