The promise of the American Dream is a central topic in American politics. Many politicians draw on this theme in their political rhetoric.
Barack Obama in his 2008 speeches “A More Perfect Union” and “The American Promise” argues that the American Dream can survive and democracy is still strong.
We can start by using forms of appeal. We hear that Obama refers to American values a lot and tries to unite citizens.
We hear that rather here, among other things “it is a promise that has always set this country apart - that through hard work and sacrifice, each of us can pursue our individual dreams but still come together as one American family
to ensure that the next generation can pursue their dreams as well”. Here, Barack Obama expresses that we always stand together no matter how hard our work is
and we must always go after our dreams. He also assumes that he keeps his promises and that distinguish them from other countries.
