Indledning
The short story” Noel” was written by the American author Michael Plemmons. Noel got published in 1985. The short story is mainly revolving around the subject objectifying children.
The story is written from a third-person point of view, which can already be seen at the very start of the story.

The narrator only observes, for example, “She was pleased with the day’s proceeds, too pleased to argue over a minor transgression.” (p. 2, ll. 26-27)
The children are being treated and talked about as objects instead of human beings. The couples come around on Christmas eve and pay a certain amount of money to be “parents” for the children” for 48 hours.
The theme can be seen throughout the whole story, one of the best examples is when Mrs. Overton spoke to the first couple and said, “We have a wonderful selection of girls” (p. 1, ll. 11-12).
She is referring to the girls like they are some type of product in a store, in which there are many variants.
