Indledning
Guilt and grief are feelings most of us have felt one or two times in our lives. These feelings are most often lead by a traumatic event occurring.
More often than not, grief is a state which is followed by the feeling of guilt. It is often a burden we put on ourselves rather than something others make us feel.
Death often makes us feel helpless and overwhelmed. The feeling of guilt hits us when we think about what we could have done to prevent the death of our loved one.
This is also the feeling Gus and Nick experience in the short story by Fiona Maazel “Let’s go to the videotape”. Gus feels guilty because his Mother sat in the backseat with him when the accident happened, and she probably would not have died if she sat in the front seat of the car.

The video Gus makes for school, triggers Nick badly because he is now forced to acknowledge both Gus and his own grief. Gus opens up about his feelings towards the car accident, and this is shocker for Nick because they have never talked about this before.
After reading the short story the reader now feels sympathy for Nick because of his loss of his wife, but we also feel like he is a bad and selfish father, because he does not recognize his son’s needs and grief.
The relationship between father and son is particularly interesting, because of the affect the car accident has had. The son, Gus, has been really traumatized by the accident.
He feels guilty that he survived, and his mother did not. His father, Nick, tells us further on, that because of this, Gus has become very ´hard to parent´ (l.5).
