Indledning
The short story, Killing Lizards, is written by William Boyd in 1981. The story starts somewhere in Africa in medias res, as we come directly into the main character Gavin’s life as a twelve years old boy.
If we take a look at the title, we see that the title has two different meanings. Literally, the title just says something about Gavin and his friends’ hobby, namely killing lizards (page 3, line 74-76).

Uddrag
The main character Gavin is a thin twelve years old boy with unusually thick eyebrows, which we get to know on (page 1, line 5-6).
If we take a look at his inner characterizing, we already know in the begging that his relationship to his sister is not the same anymore. The reason for this is because she stopped playing with him, instead she shops a lot with their mother.
This makes Gavin feel excluded as well as alone, which is also evident on (page 1, line 13-15). In connection with the lack of attention from his mother, he fantasizes that the sister and the father die so that he can get a life as an only child and thus get all the attention from his mother.
But his fantasies also make him feel guilty because it is not a thought you should have about your close family, (page 1, line 20-24).
