They end up in a very dangerous situation, where they have to make some difficult decisions. It goes under the theme “growing up” because the children’s experience is lifechanging and it will affect them as they grow up.
There is no real author since the fairytale got told from mouth to mouth before The Brothers Grimm collected and published it in 1812. It has been told many times and is a well-known fairytale.
The main characters in the story are Hansel and Gretel. They live at home with their father and his second wife, who often ill-treat them.
