The society in Divergent is organized by factions. There are five factions, Erudite the intelligent, Amity the kind, Abnegation the selfless, Dauntless the brave and Candor the honest.

The factions were created with hopes of eliminating future war and violence. The factions all have different roles to play in the society such as Abnegation is the faction that has control over the government, because the selflessness of them allows there to be no bias or corruption.

The factions are a societal division that classifies citizens based on their aptitudes and values. On a special day every year, all sixteen-year-olds must choose the faction to which they will belong to for the rest of their lives, after taking the aptitude test.

The faction they choose decides what they are allowed to wear, where they live, who they marry, their jobs and what they do for fun. When they choose their factions, they become an initiate of that faction.

In the initiation process, the leaders of each faction choose, who is cut and become factionless, in Abnegation no one is made factionless only if they choose to. The factionless are like homeless, they don’t fit in anywhere and live on the streets.

The society in Hunger Games consists of twelve districts ruled by the government in the Capitol. The government is led by President Snow. The Capitol is the place where all the wealthy and powerful people live.

The people in the Capitol have all of the wealth and live on the backs of the twelve districts, so without working that much, they are wealthy.

In every district, there is a local government and peacemakers. All the districts are controlled by the leaders in the Capitol. The districts consist of different specialties, this is of benefit to the Capitol, they get things such as seafood, agriculture and coal mining.

In the Hunger Games society, several social classes are evident. District twelve is the poorest of all the districts. In this society, there is a big gulf between the poor and the rich.

The closer you get to “twelve” and longer away from “one”, the poorer they get and the further away from the Capitol they are.
