A campaign from Nike that may seem so innocent to the naked eye, has caused some controversy due to racial factors as well as the faces of the campaign, and their personal opinions. In this essay there will be discussed the controversial sides of Nikes marketing plans, and lastly also looking into Colin Kaepernick for exerting “disrespectful” behaviour during the anthem.
The reason for the angle of this essay is chosen to highlight the good, and the bad in Nikes marketing as well as inform the readers why Colin Kaepernick chose to act a certain way and give the reader an insight of Colin’s thought at the given time of his maybe not so disrespectful act.

Colin Kaepernick caused an outrage at the NFL game in 2016 because he sank to his knees while the national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” was played. Many people thought of the act as disrespectful to the flag, as well as the president of The United States, Donald Trump.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’” (l. 25 in the article)
Colin solely did this to spread awareness of the police killings, the racial conflicts and much more. This was a huge part of Colin’s image. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour. To me this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.
There are bodies in the street and people getting paid 20 leave and getting away with murder.” (l. 20) this statement is also represented in other words where Colin in Nikes video says “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” (00.31-00.36)
It was soon made a rule to stand during the anthem. “Team owners reacted to widespread condemnation by banding together and ruling that all players must stand during the national anthem.” (l. 30)
