The book of remembrance begins from when he was only 4 years old by the name of Richard Wright. The book itself has an author who tells that he is a brother.

The person does not have a name, but we are told that he is in Mississippi. The mother repeatedly asks boys to be quiet because their grandmother is dying.

At some point in the story, Richard Wright gets so bored that he sets fire to a few straws. He then chooses to place the fire close to window curtains.

He then thinks he did not know it would go up in flames. Richard's brother gets so scared and runs out of the house and hides.

As Richard gets older, he begins to see how easily he can replicate the patterns that have captured black men for generations.

Later in the story, Richard's mother becomes ill and he then chooses to live with his grandmother.
