Indledning
How would you feel to never be heard? And always be overlooked by your parents. “The happiest days of your life” is a short story written by a Egyptian born British author named Penelope Lively in year 1978.
In the story a boy named Charles Manners and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Manners, are visiting a boarding school. The parents have high hopes for the school, and they think the school will be the best option their son, Charles.
A child’s school days and their school process are often connected with being the happiest days of their lives, but the author tells us this isn’t the case in this situation, it’s not going to be the happiest days of Charles life.

The headmaster’s wife wants Charles to meet the other boys at the school, but the boys are not as expected (p. 5, ll. 9). “The boys laugh and groan - amiable, exaggerated groans”.
The other boys are not described as friendly, and as reader you aren’t getting the feeling that the boys will give him a nice welcome. It all gets a little more serious when the headmaster’s wife leaves Charles alone with the other boys it says on (p. 5, ll. 12-14).
