Indledning
To take the responsibility for a whole nation as the president takes a lot of courage and not least a lot of support from the citizens.

The next election in America is getting closer and the two rivals Donald Trump and Joe Biden are competing to get the American population’s votes.

To affect the future outcome of the election the former first lady, Michelle Obama, presented a speech to express her political standpoint regarding the candidates, and to request people to vote differently from the last election.

This essay will dive into her way of using argumentative and linguistic features as well as nonverbal language to communicate her views as successfully as possible.

Firstly, the receiver of the speech is all the people who did not vote at the last election: “(..) too many people chose to believe that their votes didn't matter. (..)

In one of the states that determined the outcome, the winning margin averaged out to just two votes per precinct”.

She tries to reach out to this specific group of people and to convince them that their votes matter.

Moreover, she makes it clear that she is not trying to reach out to every single person in the United States: “Now, I understand that my message won't be heard by some people.”.

Due to the division in the country, she already knows that some people are impossible to reach.

It can be supposed that the target group is mainly people from the swing states, as they are disposed to be influenced by specific last-minute happenings and often have a huge impact on the outcome.
