In the speech, Michelle plays with all the forms of appeal, but one of them stands out. Pathos is used a lot and is one of the outstanding Rhetorical effects in the speech. Overall, she plays with the audience’s emotions, by explaining her way to success.

She opens up about her own life story and gets vulnerable which affects the audience with the same emotions. By explaining life can be tough, as it was for her, you can still succeed. She also uses her credibility to convince the audience of her points, which is more the ethos appeal.

She is also trying to let the audience put themself in her shoes and relate to her, this makes her a role model to them and makes them look up to her, which can inspire them to make the same choices as her, basically, it’s a motivation. (last at P . 2 & most of P. 3)

Although emotions are a big part of the speech, she also tries to be logical in her explanations. It must be very simple and the things she says are very self-explanatory, but mentioning it is very important to back up her point.
