Almost every sentence is a metaphor. a few examples are “Africa is raped” and “we remain cocooned in a mask” and “you were chopped and divided by colonial borders, by colonial masters”.

All these metaphors help to create a feeling or a mood in the text, and sometimes you’ll have to think twice of the meaning with these metaphors.

“Africa is raped” doesn’t mean that the continent has been sexually abused, which isn’t possible anyway. What’s meant is that Africa is ruined after the colonization by the British imperialists, and they weren’t able to do anything about it.
