We are the rulers of our own lives. Everyone has the right to choose for themselves. Freedom is not just a word in modern society. It’s a way of living and expressing ourselves.
Every individual internalizes norms, but we form our personalities individually. It’s a hard job to find yourself, but sometimes you need to go through tough times to really find yourself.
In these times it may seem quite overwhelming, but this is where you have to be strong and deal with them. Everyone has personal issues, and sometimes it may seem impossible, but you’ll feel better afterwards.
There is in the short story “A Gap of Sky” presented an example of dealing with tough times, and finding yourself.

The short story “A Gap of Sky” was written by Anna Hope. The story deals with a chaotic life of a 19-year-old student and her personal issues. The short story starts in medias res, where we get to see the main characters environment filled with stress, crisis, drugs and alcohol
The main character is called Ellie, and she’s living alone in London. “To Mum? To Dad? Not them especially not them. It was their fault she was doing this bloody course in the first place” (Page 4, lines 65-66). She living alone and away from her parents.
She’s has no one to talk to, and dealing with these kinds of problems seems to occur pretty hard to deal with, and especially alone. She’s missing some kind of guide in life.
Through the story she seems confused, and not really aware of what to do, so she snorts some coke. This may be the answer right now, but can’t solve the issues on the long-term basis.
The drugs can be a symbol of getaway. She is feeling lonely in the big city of London, and she has to try and forget her issues instead of really dealing with them.
