Her personality traits are the structure and carrier for the story. The very start of the story says;
“It is dark, but the wrong dark. Something is wrong with the dark” (P. 1, l. 1)

This confusion is what we first get introduced, and that would then stick with us. But later we discover her thinking of alcohol and drugs, so it could be a result of her current lifestyle and not a personality trait.

Other than being confused, she is also rebellious and immature. She lives her life as she has no responsibilities and makes bad decisions time after time;

“And the... What was the title? Something Oyster of Perceptiveness” (P. 1, l. 15) She seems as someone who don’t understand the possible consequences of her choices, or simply does not care.

She can’t even remember the topic of her essay and neither how to take care of herself. Yet she continues not to behave, properly because she´s desperate to feel free and get the expectations at a certain distance.

The physical setting is London, where the main character Ellie, lives. Areas and monuments from the city are often being mentioned;

“Near Spitalfields” (P. 1, l. 19), “Shaftesbury Avenue” (P. 3, l. 91), “The river” (P. 4, l. 126), and so on. These descriptions make the reader feel attached to the city and gives a better understanding of the story in general.

Furthermore, when Ellie wanders between these locations so easy as she does, suggests that she feels comfortable and restful in London.

She isn’t afraid to get lost or to encounter unpleasant people. She rests in herself and the city even though the city environment, occasionally, affects her negatively.
