Indledning
As a teenager, you are free to choose your own identity. In the teenage years, people are searching for answers to everything, while you go through one of the most important stages in your life. In modern society, you have to find out who you are, what you stand for and what you want to do with your life.

With all these decisions comes the question about education, in the western world we are free to choose our education. All these decisions and questions is a part of becoming a grown-up man or woman. In the short story "A Gap of Sky" written by Anna Hope in 2008, the main character is called Ellie.

Ellie is walking around in the streets of London, looking after ink, but this walk becomes a walk through her mind and thoughts.

It comes to her mind that after the drugs are gone, she gets a terrible headache and that makes her think about life and death, it is clear to the reader that she is not right to deal with the death yet.

This fear of death makes her realize that she has to make a change in her life and way of living, she has to get back on track and be serious about her life and education.

This is just one of the symbols in the text, another one is when she encounters this little black glove, with the middle finger who points up in the air.

This glove also becomes a symbol of that life is filled with possibilities you just have to catch them. The setting and indication of the locality are very exact, and it gives the reader the impression that she walks around, and she walks through her development.
