Love is a complicated extent. It brings you the biggest joy and happiness and makes you feel like you’re on top of the world, but the love is also causing the greatest moments of pain we will ever experience.
And confronting the pain is tough and scary, but we only cause an even bigger pain by trying to forget it. That is the situation for the main character in this story, Ellen.
In the text “a birthday remembered” we do not get any specific descriptions of the setting. We do, however, get details about the setting through relations between one another.

This demonstrates how caring and loving she really is. There is nothing forced about her, everything she does, she does it out of love.
And therefore, she is extremely passionate.

Jackie’s and Ellen’s love were so beautiful, that even a 14-year-old was aware of it. They lived happily together as a family, with an inspiring amount of love between them.
But even though she seems happy and grateful, there is is something depressing about her. “The living room was beginning to become shaded. She reached over and turned on a table lamp.”
“She turned away, pretending to search the refrigerator so Tobie couldn´t see her face. Do something else while waiting for the milk to warm.”
