Indledning
The text "Toffee" is a story written by Agnes Owens. He touches on many exciting and interesting topics during the war.

Many had a hard time getting a job and therefore they do not earn very much money. The war took place several years ago, and then there were a lot more rights than we know today.

It was typically the women who were most exposed because they did not have the same respect for them as they did for the men. Therefore, it was much more difficult for women to find a job as they were not thought to be suitable for it.

Maureen is very desperate to get money, the more, the better. (s. 3 line 74-76)” without warning, he´d put his hand up her skirt. I hope you don´t mind, he said huskily.

It´s just that I find you very attractive”. Maureen does not say much after the situation, she actually talks to him just a little by mouth.

Maureen has probably learned this from herself at home because she knows nothing good will come out of starting to discuss.

And in this situation, it also bears fruit (s. 4 line 80-82)” He told her that since she was so good at delivering papers and had not made one single mistake, he would give her a shilling a week extra, plus a bar of toffee, as a token of his good faith”.

Maureen is an incredibly young girl, and she may well know that what Willie did is wrong. But despite her age, she does not dare say no or resist.

She is trying to be older and more mature. This is also why she was proud of her salary and wanted to keep some of the money herself. But Maureen is still a young girl mentally, even though she is trying to convince herself on the outside that she is older than she really is.

The text is written I in medias res (s. 1 line 3-4)” Bloody well wake up! Maureen’s mother called to her daughter, who slept in the kitchen bed recess.
