Indledning
It is the one-year anniversary of their best friend’s disappearance, the 4 girls in the friend group all lost touch after their queen bee went missing, now one year later it is like her disappearance is bringing them back together, after they all individually start receiving messages and notes that includes some of their deepest secrets that only the missing girl has knowledge about.
These messages are noted by “-A”, which is the first letter in the name of the missing girl, Alison. I Chose to analyze the first episode of the first season in the series Pretty Little Liars which is named “Pilot”.
In this analytical essay I will focus on the opening of the episode, on the setting in the text and the characters of the show.

These settings have shaped some of the characters values. One of the girls in the group, her name is Spencer, she is 17 years old, and she is very much the clever and perfect girl in the group.
She lives with her mom, dad and her older sister. Both of her parents are well educated, works a lot and are members of a very posh tennis club.
This puts very high expectations on Spencer and make her want to look like her life is perfect, despite their family problems that only the family know about.
The second girl of the group is named Hanna and is also 17 years old. She is the pretty blonde girl of the group and she lives with her single mom.
In the text, we hear about how her dad left them a couple of years back for another family and how her mom has been having a hard time paying the bills ever since.
This causes Hanna to do outrages things such as steeling designer sunglasses, so that she can look upper class and keep it a secret that her mom is almost broke, so she can maintain this Rosewood image of being perfect, as well as gaining her dad´s attention.
