Indledning
The Homing Instinct is a short story written by Mike Fox. The story narrates the life of two homeless people in the span of a 2 – 3 month’s period.

Even though we only get a few glimpses into their daily lives, through figurative language and subtle descriptions of nature we get a broader outlook on the lives of vagabonds and connections between sentient beings.

Orlando and Jessie are our two vagabonds and main characters. They live on the street and their commonality is that they share a past where things went “pear shaped”.

Meaning, at some point in life, without them recognizing the change, life was suddenly not what it used to be. They met at a daily charity event, in the basement of a church, where food and water are available.

They live out in nature, near a river, where birds and animals of all kind frequently visit for peace and relaxation. They also live with a third vagabond. George, an old man who’s not well.
