Since the industrial revolution began in about 1750, CO2 levels have risen more than 30%. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in at least 800,000 years .
Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves. This essay aims to argue why a stronger focus on sustainability is needed and discuss if it is needed.
The article, “Why is sustainability important?” is written by Megan H and published in the permaculturenews.org the 7th of January 2016. The article is a text that addresses why sustainability is important.
There is no doubt that she wants more focus on sustainability, because of her opinions, and that she addresses what we can do to become more sustainable.
She addresses it very clearly “Sustainability is important for a very simple, very straightforward reason: we cannot maintain our quality of life as human beings, the diversity of life on Earth, or Earth’s ecosystems unless we embrace it”.
