Even though Barack Obama on behalf of the US in 2014 said they would do everything they possibly could to cut carbon emissions, this has not been the case.

In 2016 Barack Obama left office, and Donald Trump entered the white house. Since Donald Trump became president, the US has become the first nation in the world to formally withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

The US and China are responsible for more than 40% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Therefore it shocked many people that Trump withdrew from the Paris agreement.

The Paris Agreement is also called the 21st Conference of the Parties or COP21. In Paris, the biggest emitters committed to cutting their emissions.

The US even agreed to cut its emission by 26-28% compared to 2005 levels by 2025. That was before Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the agreement.

When confronted with his choice to leave the climate agreements, Donald Trump simply does not believe in climate change, he says.

In 2017 he even stated that ‘’climate change was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive’’- something he later claimed was a joke.

Since Donald Trump came into office in 2017, the US carbon (CO2) emissions have risen 3,48% according to data from the World Development Indicators.
