In this speech, I will look into the reasons for surveillance and talk about whether there is a need for surveillance at all. I will talk about our national security, as well as get into the subject of our personal safety and comfort.
I will also talk about Edward Snowden, and his take on the NSA, his former place of work, and their form of surveillance. Lastly, I will conclude whether or not I believe that we need surveillance at all .
To begin with, let me ask you a question. Do you value a safe environment? Certainly, we all like to feel safe and secure, so inevitably the answer to this question would be yes. Of course, I value a safe environment.
National security is cameras on the roads, tracking someone associated with a hostile and foreign government, keeping an eye on citizens associated with terrorist organizations and cellphones in areas led by terrorists.
Being aware that our government does everything in their power to ensure national security, and security of each and every citizen is very reassuring. This form of surveillance makes us feel safe.
On the other side of the spectrum of safety, we have our personal safety. Before I continue, let me ask you a simple question.
How many of you own a smartphone? Okay - evidently you all own a smartphone. Let me ask you another question.
