Good evening everyone.
First of all, as a student I feel very honoured to be here with you, and to have the opportunity to participate in this conference. My name is Nicole Smith and I am 18 years old.
I would like to start out by thanking the mayor of London, by hosting this conference, which relates to a very important topic.
As a student I am very politically active, and therefore I have been asked to give a speech, and to tell my perspectives at the situation with Riots in London.
This have been a very debated topic, and I really understand the problematic. We need to take this seriously and prevent those riots from happening again.

If we look back at the things that happened in August 2011, a big group of mostly young people, found a new way damaging the country. All this started after the episode with Mark Duggan. He was a young black man who was shot dead by the police.
This incident was truly terrible, especially because it was the beginning of where we are standing today. The reaction to this incident was a group of people who were smashing and stealing, which caused a lot of ruined streets and neighbourhoods.
The way the group communicated was by social network sites, and texts between mobile phones.
These options of communication were also used to include more and more people. Innocent people received texts on their blackberries as, “If you’re down for making money, we’re about to go hard in east London tonight, yes tonight!!” .
The Riots brought up a lot of concern about why they take place and how the community can prevent them from happening.
The prime minister, of the time David Cameron, commented that “It is clear, that there are things that are badly wrong in our society ”, and he is certainly right about that.
