Even though the slavery ended a long time ago, some disagreements between the black community and the authorities doesn’t seem to have been solved.

Too many times the news shows new collisions between the two parts. And in 2014 it happened again, this time in Ferguson, USA.

The riots in Ferguson is one of the newer examples of protests in the USA against the police’s treatment of black people.

It all began when a young, unarmed man, Michael Brown, was killed on the street in Ferguson by a police officer in 2014.

A lot of people were shocked by this event and went on the streets to show their support of Michael’s family and the black community in general.

But as mentioned this isn’t the first protest of its kind, and it will most likely not be the last. The killing of Michael Brown was what caused people to start the riots, but it is only the superficial reason.

According to sociology professor and leading urban ethnographer Elijah Anderson these protests had been a long time coming (p. 1, ll. 2-3).
