Indledning
The world we live in has become so incredibly globalised that moving to the other side of the planet doesn’t faze people. Whatever the reason being that people decide to make the move, work or pleasure, it is not as big of a deal as it used to be.
We are lucky enough today to be able to pick and choose where we want to live. Many people love the countryside and suburban life because of the freedom they find there, in contrast to the urban life of the big cities.
Although, the big city life is said to be the most appealing with over 54% of the world’s population living in urban areas. Where people choose to live, comes down to what the various individuals find most pleasing for their day-to-day lives.
In Susan Cheever’s “My Little Bit of Country”, an essay from the anthology Central Park, published in 2012, she explains the reasons as to why she has chosen to live where she does.
Throughout the text, her attitude towards the differences between urban and suburban life becomes very clear as her strong arguments are presented and her perspective is highlighted.

Uddrag
Susan Cheever does not just love the urban life, but she is also slightly terrified by living in the country, and being distanced from other people –
“I have to confess that in the real country, far from other people and the cozy hum of electric generators and the clatter of traffic, I am often frightened.” The negatives she sees in living in the countryside obviously positively amplify her view of the city life.
