In the east, particularly Japan, Korea, and China the discipline is extremely important in the daily life of a kid as well as an adult.
This is due to the major pressure of honor and title which big parts of the Asian society are dominated by. So, it is clear that this discipline comes from centuries of hard work and class society, where your social status means a lot.
