Homelessness in the USA is a big problem. In the year of 2017 there were 554.000 homeless people according to the newest report on the subject.
New York and California are the two states in America with the highest rate of homeless people.
Most of these people do not have any income, they have no job or any assets and therefor they are forced to live on the street with poor possibility for shelter, food and human connections.

The homeless people who have a shelter have a larger possibility to survive. If you don’t have access to a shelter and the most important things likeclothing and food you don’t have a big chance to survive..
Both things can be achieved by scavenging or by begging. In the USA they also have a welfare system like we do in Denmark.
This means that the homeless people in the USA also have the possibility to collect money paid by the state, but the amount is smaller and the rules for achieving it is much harder.
