Hello everyone, my name is Mike Oxlong Smith. At first I would really like to thank you all for taking the time to listen to my speech

and especially a big thanks to the teachers at Boston University for giving me an opportunity to share my thoughts about this horrific topic .

As most of you already know I am a student at Boston University where I study American culture and history

therefore I would like to talk about Racism in the United States of America, how the black American citizens are treated, and the prejudices white people have on Afro Americans.

Now let me move on to the next point on my agenda which is the difference in education between white and black students.

Back in the days after the civil war the government agencies started to draw maps that were dividing cities into sections that were either desirable or undesirable for investment, that was redlining

and they usually blocked off entire black neighborhoods for some reason. Banks and other services used these maps to deny black people’s loans, and other services based their denying’s purely on race.

White people back then had many prejudices on how Afro Americans lived, some people maybe thought that black people were lazy, but they were not.

The redlining also effected the education in the black neighborhoods, because of the low economy most Afro Americans lived in poor areas and the schools were mostly founded by property taxes and because of that the schools were not very well funded.

This was not fair for the black citizens I think that it was very sad for the children to grow up in a poor area just because of their race.

Finally, I am going to talk about the workplaces that hired only people with white name on their CV and the incident that started the revolution.

For an example if a full educated white man with a GPA on 4 and a black man with the exact same education and GPA both send a their CV to a company

the company most likely would choose the white man over the black man again because of the prejudice white people had on black people.
